The ABX Comparator System was demonstrated at the Midwest Acoustics Conference in April 1982, with this rack of distortion producers, dubbed "The Audio Chamber of Horrors". The amount and type of distortion could be adjusted until is was just barely audible and the audibilty confirmed with an ABX double blind test.
