23rd Annual SMWTMS AUTOSOUND CONTEST (2005)

Highest overall score was 6.9 acheived by George Marutz with a system of his own design in a 2004 Trailblazer. George also had the highest tonal score, 4.1. He achieved this by using the rule allowing tuning for best score. The greatest low frequency extension of 16 Hz and the highest low frequency SPL, 118.6 dB was achieved by Kevin McCallum in a system of his own design in a 2004 Impala SS. Third prize was awarded to David Carlstrom for second highest overall score of 5.73. He created a custom equalization for the Boston Acoustics speakers in his 2005 Dodge Magnum for a tonal score of 3.9, bass extension of 32 Hz and low frequency SPL of 110 dB.

AUTOSOUND CONTEST JUDGING:
|

Judging if the contest is objective. Cars are judged solely on PTF (Perceptual Transfer Function) measurements. PTF includes, tone balance frequency response, maximum SPL, maximum bass SPL, and Spatial Rendition. A points system will produce the final score: 5 points Tonal Balance; 5 points Soundstage; 0.1 point/dB for SPL over 100 dB SPL @ 10 % distortion; 0.1 point/dB for 40 to 100 Hz average SPL over 100 dB @ 10 % distortion; 0.1 point per Hz for extension below 40 Hz (-6dB from target). Additional prize categories are maximum bass SPL and best spectral balance.

AUTOSOUND CONTEST RULES:
- No charge for entering the autosound contest
- Non-members must join SMWTMS for 2004 to enter the autosound contest
- Frivolous entries may be rejected by the judges
- Time permitting, tuning for best PTF score may be attempted.
